INTERMEDIATE COPYWRITER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Creative Director, and working collaboratively with other team members, you will be responsible for a broad range of copywriting, editing and proofreading assignments related to client projects for brand/retail strategy, design and packaging.

As the Intermediate Copywriter, you will create and manage client’s consumer-facing and branded written content that is compliant, and true to the brand voice and strategy. You will generate ideas for content based on data, customer insights, brand strategy, and industry trends. These ideas will be well-researched and brought to life with clarity and efficiency and will support meeting our client’s objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop unique and inspiring packaging components by facilitating creative copywriting, editing and proofing.

  • Generate headlines, wayfinding and signage for retail environment.

  • Ensure clear and consistent brand voice from a strong understanding of the desired target audience, including brand packaging application copywriting, brand guidelines copywriting and brand platform copywriting.

  • Participate in strategic team brainstorms including name generation, brand platforms, campaign ideation, etc.

  • Edit and proofread copy through all stages of the creative process to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.

  • Drive the creation of original concepts that result in effective and compelling communication.

  • Provide research support to uncover trends relative to market, consumer and competitor, including examples of Best in Class (BIC).

  • Support in the development of proposals in response to customer Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), and other types of solicitations.

  • Collaborate with production, creative, and strategic teams to ensure project completion to deadline and budget.

  • Interact and communicate effectively with external clients as required.

  • Study and evaluate the success of launched assignments for future considerations.

  • Organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Stay current and maintain a library of industry news and reference materials.

  • Continually look at opportunities for process improvement and exceeding client expectations on project deliverables.

  • Work with integrity on all projects and hold him/herself/themself accountable for delivering on expectations.

  • Work collaboratively to ensure that work produced is consistently of the highest quality.

  • Work both collaboratively and independently on projects as needed in a fast-paced environment.

 

Skills and Experience
  • 3-5 years’ copywriting, editing, and proofing experience in an Agency or Retail environment.

  • A University or College degree.

  • Knowledge and experience in the retail industry and packaging.

  • Online Marketing/Communications experience, including Social Media.

  • Bilingual French/English speaking and written is an asset.

  • Ability to create content in a range of styles or as per prescribed style.

  • Strong retail copywriting skills and knowledge of editing procedures.

  • Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.

  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.

  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.

  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability.

  • A self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of responsibility.

  • A personality and attitude suited to an intense, dynamic, fun, open work environment.

  • Technically proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project (or similar), and Word.
